Steve Blackman, the showrunner of the popular Netflix superhero series The Umbrella Academy, teases a major mystery to come if there is a season 4.
The Umbrella Academy Showrunner Steve Blackman teases a mystery the show will probe if it’s renewed for a season 4. The Umbrella Academy, which premiered its first season on Netflix in 2019, is based on the Dark Horse graphic novels of the same name by artist Gabriel Bá and writer Gerard Way, who is best known as the frontman of the band My Chemical Romance. The show follows a group of former heroes who worked together as children as they come together to save the world. It features an ensemble cast that includes Justin H. Min, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Elliot Page as Viktor Hargreeves.
The Umbrella Academy season 3 premiered on the streaming service on June 22, 2022. It followed the Umbrella team as they returned to their time after season 2’s adventure in the 1960s, only to find themselves in an all-new timeline where the Umbrella Academy has been replaced by the supposedly superior Sparrow Academy. They must quickly get back into action to prevent the end of the world once again.
On the Netflix bonus material website TUDUM, Blackman revealed what he wanted to do with the series as a follow-up to such a long season. Although The Umbrella Academy season 4 has yet to be officially ordered, he knows exactly what graphic novel material would come next. He teased that the season will include “one of the greatest mysteries of the graphic novel.” Read his full quote below:
One of the stories I want to tell next year, if we get caught, is one of the biggest mysteries in graphic novels. I don’t want to say what it is, but the fans will probably understand it.
As he himself admitted, it shouldn’t be too difficult for graphic novel fans to figure out exactly what Blackman is teasing. So far, there are only three volumes of the original graphic novel, with a promised fourth volume supposed to arrive at a currently unknown date. With only so much material to choose from, the show has already adapted most of the graphic novel, so readers should be able to triangulate exactly what has yet to be covered.
It all depends on The Umbrella Academy to be picked up for Season 4 in the first place. However, that probably won’t be a problem as the series continues to attract large audiences. In the first week of release, the show reached No. 1 on Netflix’s weekly chart with a total of 124.5 million hours watched, ultimately becoming the title to topple. stranger things season 4 part 1 of his reign at the top. While he’s sure to be knocked down by stranger things part 2 meanwhile, the series is likely to stay in the top 10 for quite some time, making a renewal more or less inevitable.
