Queen Charlotte will have a stage to shine
Ever since Season 1, fans have been intrigued by Queen Charlotte’s story. The character was not in the original Bridgerton novels and was the brainchild of Bridgerton designer Chris Van Dusen.
Actress Golda Rosheuvel’s captivating performance caught the attention of fans and critics alike, and everyone immediately wanted to know everything they could about her. Now fans can get the chance to learn more about Queen Charlotte as Rhimes and Quinn have signed a new contract that sees them writing Queen Charlotte’s story for readers.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the couple has signed a deal with Avon Books which has acquired the North American rights for a collaborative novel starring Rhimes and Quinn.
Avon Books, an imprint of the William Morrow Group in HarperCollins, has had a close working relationship with Quinn and is responsible for publishing all of his Bridgerton novels. “Queen Charlotte was such a moving character to write, and now having the opportunity to work with Julia to adapt this story into a book is such an exciting opportunity,” Rhimes said.
According to the outlet, the novel will be based on the upcoming spin-off series which provides in-depth insight into Queen Charlotte and her relationship with King George, which brought about “social change” that led to the racially inclusive world that the viewers see in the Netflix series. Deadline reported that the novel would coincide with the premier of the upcoming spinoff.
What is the spin-off about?
According to Netflix news site Tudum, the prequel will focus on a young Queen Charlotte in the 1760s as she strives to become the mighty monarch. Bridgerton fans of the series have come to love it. The series will also draw the curtain on her marriage and romance with King George.
The site notes that the prequel has yet to be named but will contain eight episodes. Queen Charlotte may not be a complete fantasy as she is based on the real life royal who ruled the UK. There has been speculation that the real Queen Charlotte may have been the first black member of the royal family.
India Amarteifio will play young Charlotte, who must quickly learn the royal ropes after finding herself betrothed to the king against her will. Michelle Fairley will play King George’s mother, Princess Augusta, while Corey Mylchreest will play young King George. Queen Charlotte’s best friend and confidante, the younger version of Lady Danbury, will be hosted by Arsema Thomas.
The character of Thomas is portrayed as a guide for the queen who helps her friend navigate her way to royalty and become the most powerful woman in the world. Rosheuvel, Adjoah Ando (Lady Danbury) and Ruth Gemmell (Lady Bridgerton) will also reprise their respective roles. Netflix and Rhimes have yet to reveal when the new series will air.
