TUPELO, Mississippi (WTVA) – A $ 7,000 grant will allow the Lee-Itawamba library system to purchase new and updated children’s books.
Below is a copy of the Library System announcement.
The Lee-Itawamba Library received a grant of $ 7,000 under the Library Services and Technology Act. Funds from this grant will be used to purchase new and updated titles for the children’s collections in the system. These collections include Easy and Picture Books, Easy Readers, Juvenile Biographies, Juvenile Fiction, Juvenile Graphic Novels, and Juvenile Non-Fiction.
Itawamba County Pratt Memorial Library Director Jeffrey Martin says he considers the children’s collections to be the most important in the library. He adds: “Young people are our future, and these materials allow them to ensure that they are informed and prepared to face future challenges.
Lee County Library Youth Services Librarian Grace Guntharp says her library’s children’s collection contains many older and obsolete books. “I am very happy that this grant allows us to purchase new and diverse titles that better reflect our community today,” she said.
This grant was funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services as part of the State Library Services and Technology Grants Program, administered by the Mississippi Library Commission. The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of federal support for libraries and museums across the country. We advance, support, and empower U.S. museums, libraries, and related organizations through grantmaking, research, and policy development.
