Cheboygan Area Public Library Garden and Children’s Library Improvements

Ready to follow the Yellow Brick Road to a country (or garden, in this case) of fun and colorful characters? Now is your chance. The Cheboygan Area Public Library Children’s Garden has received some updates.

Following the theme of the Wizard of Oz, now you might see a brave lion, a sincere iron man, a clever scarecrow, a lovable dog named Toto, a poppy field, the emerald city, and have a chance to decide of a good witch or bad witch. Plus, be on the lookout for a flying monkey.

Further improvements are planned but the garden is open at all times. It also has great Wi-Fi. So if you need a grassy area to spread a blanket for reading, or a picnic table to sit down with an afternoon snack or a warm, sunny spot to surf the web, the Kindergarten is a great place to visit. Again, the Kindergarten is always open and Wi-Fi is available 24/7.

Don’t forget to visit the children’s library as well. There are always a lot of new books coming out. There are three main areas to look for these new books in the children’s library. First off, there is a selection of large series and standalone chapter books right in the kids’ area. Second, there are new picture books ready for viewing on the A-frame shelf next to the play area. Third, if non-fiction is what you’re after, there are plenty of new non-fiction titles on a shelf next to the risers just past Miss Nancy’s desk.

Many little ones will be happy to know that the toys are back. A collection of fun toys is now stored on a shelf under the front windows where the picture book collection begins. There are MarbleWorks, Legos, a Fisher Price house and barn, cars and trucks, dinosaurs and more. They are available to anyone interested in playing at the library.

At 3pm on July 23, join the Cheboygan Area Public Library in downtown Washington Park near the kiosk in front of the Chamber of Commerce office for “Animal Tales” featuring live animals. This program is open to all ages – young and old.

This program will share how animals have been featured in myths and folk tales and how they are used by storytellers for entertainment. Of course, this variety of living mammals, reptiles and birds is sure to delight.

Do not hesitate to bring your own garden chairs or blankets to sit on. And of course, bring your friends and neighbors. The event is free and open to everyone.

The Cheboygan Area Public Library is open during regular hours. These hours offer early opening and late closing hours as well as weekend hours, so patrons have a variety of options for when they want or need to visit the library. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
