Amazon has removed Comixology in-app purchases for Android users due to Google Play Store policy updates.
Comixology announced that starting May 31, Android users will no longer be able to purchase comics, graphic novels or manga or subscribe to Comixology Unlimited when using the Comixology app with an Android with the release of version 4.0.1 of the application. Android users can still read books in their libraries, preview samples, and browse titles in the app after the update. “To stay compliant with updated Google Play Store policies, purchase is no longer supported in the Comixology app for Android,” Comixology said on its website. “Comixology readers can continue to read and browse, and subscribed members can continue to checkout within the app as they normally do. By browsing within the app, readers can add items they wish to purchase at their listings, which are also accessible on Amazon’s website.Customers can continue to purchase books, magazines, and comics, as well as subscription content, on Amazon’s website.
Android customers wishing to purchase comic books or other titles can still do so by visiting the Comixology home page — amazon.com/comixology for US subscribers and amazon.co.uk/comixology for UK subscribers. Any comics purchased or borrowed from the Amazon website will appear in the Comixology app library for reading. All previously purchased and borrowed comics will also remain in Android users’ libraries after the new change.
“You can browse comics in the app and add the ones you’re interested in to your list and purchase from Amazon’s website,” Comixology said. “To add to the list in the app, tap the heart icon on the books and series pages and in search in Discover. After tapping the heart icon, select a list to add the comic or create a new list. You can view your lists in the app by going to the top right menu (Utilities) and selecting “My Lists”.
Lists can be viewed at amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls for US users and amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls for UK users. Lists are also available in the top menu of the home page. “Members of Comixology Unlimited (US-only program), Kindle Unlimited, and Prime Reading can continue to borrow subscription content within the app,” Comixology said. “Borrowed books will appear in your library. Comixology Unlimited members can access and read over 40,000 comic book titles directly from the app. To learn more and sign up, visit amazon.com/comixologyunlimited in your web browser .”
